As noted by some reports, Vance has been previously critical of President Trump, especially back in 2016, but that all seems to be water under the bridge:

The May 3 primary election is coming up in Ohio, with early voting already underway, and voters will be focusing on a battle for the U.S. Senate seat being left open by Senator Rob Portman who is retiring.

U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance, one of seven Republicans in the race, won the endorsement Friday of Former President Donald Trump. Vance has said he was critical of and had some strong words for Donald Trump in 2016.

That was then. This is now.

On Saturday Vance will appear on stage with Trump at a rally in Delaware County after he got the former president’s endorsement.

“It looks like the weather is nice, it’s going to be a fun time. We are going to have a lot of people fired up about the country,” Vance said.

Donald Trump, Jr., will also be doing some campaigning with Vance in Ohio this week including a town hall event in Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon that will be re-broadcast on Newsmax this weekend.

The rest of the crowded GOP field to replace outgoing Senate Rob Portman continues to be friendly to Trump despite the Vance endorsement:

Candidate Josh Mandel said he will continue to be a proud supporter of President Trump and the America First agenda.

“I look forward to earning his endorsement in the general election and working with him to defeat Tim Ryan in November,” Mandel said.

U. S. Senate candidate Mike Gibbons released the following statement on President Trump’s decision in this primary:

“While I would have loved the endorsement, I continue to be in a strong position in this race because I have been an America First champion and fighter. I will continue to fight for what I believe in and I am confident Ohioans will vote for my authentic conservative message.”

The Republican Primary for Portman’s U.S. Senate seat takes place on May 3 and early voting is already underway, details below from the Republican Party of Ohio:
