Primary Voting Today in Five States: Can “Ultra-MAGA” Defeat Trump in Pennsylvania?

A handful of states are holding primary elections today: Idaho, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Oregon. The one most political observers will be paying attention to, however, is the Pennsylvania Senate primary. Below you will find links to the live primary results as well as what time the polls close in each state.

It’s red on red today in the Keystone State where Republicans are selecting a candidate for Senate in the upcoming November midterm elections. On the slate are three potential winners, including upstart Kathy Barnette, the preferred “MAGA” choice versus the Trump-endorsed MAGA choice of Dr. Mehmet Oz. The third candidate is David McCormick, the “establishment” choice in the race fighting both Oz and now Barnette.

All three seem to have a reasonable shot at winning, though the momentum in recent weeks has been with Barnette who emerged as an alternative to Oz and McCormick. The question is whether Trump defeats MAGA or MAGA defeats Trump?

Speaking yesterday on Fox News, Barnette lamented Donald Trump’s choice to do a last-minute robocall against her in support of Dr. Oz:

Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Kathy Barnette described a recent robocall in which former President Trump campaigns for Dr. Mehmet Oz as “unfortunate” and a bad move by his advisers.

State of play: Barnette has been a longtime supporter for Trump, who has endorsed her opponent Oz in the Senate GOP primary race.

Driving the news: Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” played snippets of a robocall in which Trump says that Barnette “wanted to build a statue to Barack Hussein Obama and attacked the father of our country, George Washington. That’s no good.”

Barnette responded to the robocalls, saying “that is unfortunate that the president would say that,” Barnette said. “Again, I’m going to chalk it up to he has bad advisers on that one. It is very clear.”

Trump has come out hard for Dr. Oz, speaking out against Barnette, as evidenced by the robocall and messages the former President sent on Truth Social questioning Barnette’s qualifications and past.

Polls show Dr. Oz with a slight lead heading into today but the end result is really a jump ball with most polling within the margin of error among all three candidates.
