Biden Draws His First Official Democratic Challenger in 2024

Just kidding, Gavin Newsom is still planted firmly in California — for now.

The first challenger in the pool trying to primary Joe Biden hasn’t been on the radar since 2020 when she built up a quasi-cult following for her debate stage charm and viral sound bites.

She’s a bestselling “self-help” author and frequent commentator on America’s mental and emotional health. In that regard, she’s far more empathetic to the plight of ordinary people than President Empathy has been.

Without further ado, America will be treated to round two of the universe’s favorite intergalactic ambassador of goodwill, Marianne Williamson:

Marianne Williamson, a prominent progressive who ran for president in 2020, confirmed in an interview published Thursday that she will run again for the Democratic nomination for president in 2024.

That would put her in a Democratic primary against President Biden, who has not announced his own plans but is widely expected to run for reelection next year.

“I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t believe I could contribute to harnessing the collective sensibility that I feel is our greatest hope at this time,” Williamson told the Medill News Service, which is run by Northwestern University, in an exclusive interview.

Williamson considers herself a progressive, and she is, for the most part. She’s adopted all the fun ideas like reparations for slavery and turned them into her campaign platform. In other words, she’s just a progressive willing to stand by the whacky ideas most of her left-wing political colleagues only whisper quietly.

She’s not a big fan of the Democratic National Committee, however, and she’s been rather outspoken recently about the vote to strip Iowa of its primary starting position in favor of South Carolina:

During her interview with the Medill News Service, she also criticized the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) decision to change the early presidential primary schedule, which places South Carolina as the first state in the lineup. South Carolina, where Biden placed first in 2020, is widely credited for helping boost his momentum in that Democratic primary.

“How can you claim to be a champion of democracy when your own process is so undemocratic?” Williamson told the student-run news outlet.

No kidding, the Democratic Party is undemocratic? Who knew? At least she’s got one thing right.

Here’s a flashback where Williamson describes the “dark psychic force of hatred” she claims Donald Trump manifested during his presidency while simultaneously blaming him for the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, a problem that far pre-dated his inauguration:

Williamson’s 2024 candidacy is probably more about selling books and self-promotion than it is a serious campaign.

If there truly is a primary, meaning Joe Biden decides not to run, it’s conceivable that we get another round of Williamson on the debate stage. What a treat that will be, get the popcorn ready.
