The Primetime Jan. 6 Hearings Will Be a Disaster for Democrats

“Who cares about gas prices and inflation, what really happened on January 6, 2021?” – Said no one ever aside from the Democrats and RINO Republicans on the highly partisan Jan. 6 Committee assembled by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

On Thursday night, America will be treated to a highly over-produced and entirely stilted presentation from the Democrat-run committee specifically put together to attack former President Donald Trump and try to prevent him from running again in 2024.

With the help of former ABC News president, James Goldston, Democrats will present their one-sided findings to the American people at almost the exact time gas prices will nationally reach an average of $5.00 per gallon:

In some other universe, Democrats have some insane idea that millions of Americans will tune in on Thursday night and come away shocked and appalled learning information already available to the general public. Furthermore, these viewers will be so shocked, that the result will turn the upcoming midterm election away from Republicans and Donald Trump, specifically.

The challenge for Democrats, according to Vox, is actually getting anyone to tune in and stay awake and interested in a one-sided hit piece against Trump while inflation burns up every last dollar of household discretionary spending:

Perhaps the January 6 committee’s public hearings this week will bridge the partisan divides on the event; maybe it will convince Americans that the day truly was a national tragedy, and persuade even Republicans who support Trump that his role was truly unforgivable.

Sadly, we have every reason to expect the committee to fail at these tasks.

In the nearly year and a half since the Capitol riot, it has only grown dimmer in the public imagination. Two polls, from Pew and NBC News, found that the percentage of Americans who believe Trump is responsible for the January 6 attack has declined significantly over the course of the year. That number has fallen among both Republicans and Democrats, suggesting it’s the result of people seemingly forgetting the former president’s pivotal role in inciting the riot.

Vox, of course, a left-wing publication, lives in the alternate universe where simply uttering the words “January 6” invokes a threat to democracy. They think everyone else should be just as incensed and outraged as they are that the protest turned riot hasn’t been squarely pinned on Donald Trump. Somehow, they truly believe that the primetime hearings will help, but not to any measurable extent. The quiet part is that Vox knows it’s a loser, but they wish it could something impactful.

Here’s the breaking news. The primetime Jan. 6 hearings will get ratings among some Democrats tuning in simply due to a hatred for Trump. The rest of the country, perhaps the other 80% will be watching or doing practically anything else.

There have already been hours and days of testimony coming out of the committee, much of it debunked or simply overblown. Somehow, Democrats are selling the primetime committee hearing, a snooze-fest during daytime hours, as a hard-hitting expose on the findings of the committee and they’re expecting people to care.

The problem again is that even among Democrats, most people know the events of Jan. 6, 2021, are well overblown and far more meaningful to grandstanding congressman than the average voter:

Indeed, a May FiveThirtyEight/Ipsos poll found that “political extremism or polarization” was the second-most important issue among Democrats — topped only by inflation. And yet, there’s scant evidence of a mass pro-democracy movement pushing to prevent another Republican attempt to steal an election (either through laws or riots). If the January 6 Capitol attack didn’t kick off such a mass mobilization by Democrats, it’s hard to imagine a post-facto investigation into the riot being more galvanizing.

Again, the newsflash here is that even Democrats think the issue is being overplayed and unless it ends in a direct indictment and perp walk of Donald Trump, they no longer care.

It is truly laughable to expect voters, currently in the grip of gas prices about to hit $5.00 per gallon nationally, watching record high inflation not seen since 1980, will care about events that took place 17 months ago.

In that vein, the primetime broadcast on Thursday may be a monumental disaster for Democrats. Joe Biden just hit his lowest approval numbers on average, thanks largely to a perception that he and his party are focused on all the wrong things:

Does anyone believe primetime coverage of grandstanding Democrats harping on Donald Trump will somehow improve Biden’s standings? Not a chance.
