Just minutes ago, businessman Herman Cain announced he was formally suspending his presidential campaign. In his statement, Cain attributed the decision to too many “distractions,” as he calls them, on the campaign trail which are now interfering in his personal life.

Report from the LA Times:

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a “cloud of doubt over me and this campaign.”

“As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign,” he said at an event in Atlanta. “I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter.”

Cain’s campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been “reassessing” his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

Cain has hinted that an endorsement is coming soon.

Of course Cain will endorse Gingrich, that was easy to see at the Lincoln/Douglas so called debate. Cain was always Newt’s foil.

  2. Newt’s been good at kissing Cain’s behind pretty good, he knew it would come down to cain quitting, heck he may have something to do with the women coming out of the woodwork.

  3. Right before the presidential forum, smart move. Because hes clueless during one-on-one interviews, like the interview when he got questioned about Libya. I like Ron Paul also, i think he will intrigue viewers and move up after the weekend forum.

  4. No other candidate stands as strong with morality, humanity, ethics, individual responsibility, consistency, and transparency as Ron Paul. Bachmann is the only other candidate coming close to the values that Dr Paul delivers.
Our collapse is coming…it is inevitable. The degree of the coming collapse is what is important. One term of presidency shall not “bail” America out of the hole that has been being dug for decades. We are in EPIC times, we need EPIC direction within our nation, Ron Paul is not about isolationism ….Ron Paul is about focusing on regaining the respect of our citizens and the respect of the world through tightening the reins that have become so grossly loose in past years. Tightening the reins requires a sort of “cleaning house” within our system. A Dr Paul presidency shall begin America on a course for true statesmen to begin appearing in future candidacies which will continue us on a course of a New Republic of America.
The strength of America lies within the PEOPLE, not the leaders.

  5. I’m an Ayn Rand Libertarian who does support RP, he’s not perfect, and he’s wrong on abortion – but he still has my vote.

  6. You can bet that Romney was behind all this. His greed for the presidency is in desperate mode. Ron Paul is a wuss on world affairs. While Obama is globe trotting around the world apologizing for our ignorance and arrogance to our enemies, Ron Paul would make America walk around with a sign on our back saying ‘KICK-ME’! Newt is the man to repair this Obama destroyed nation and I hope he picks Bachman as his running mate. The country needs a mother’s love and she’s the right fit. You won’t be hearing her say, “We have to pass the bill to see whats in it” as Neo Nazi Pelosi said.

    • Ron Paul will require Congress to declare war, get in, win it and get out if we are attacked. That sounds sensible to me. The alternative, never ending covert activities, aggression and killing of all persons suspected of hating and plotting against the occupation and interference by America.

  7. Herman Cain has announced a suspension not the end of his campaign. This means that he can continue to raise donations and receive federal matching funds. In the meantime he plans to set up a site to promote his ideas, so Herman remains a powerful force in the 2012 campaign and we will see all the candidates except Ron Paul competing for Herman’s endorsement. I think Gingrich will have an indifferent posture about receiving Herman’s endorsement and that he will be the one to receive it…eventually.

    I support Ron Paul 2012

  8. Gingrich is an Washington establishment Republican. NOTHING WILL CHANGE if Gingrich is elected. Washington runs in his blood. He will cary Bush’s legacy forward…and Bush was a Liberal in sheeps clothing. And NO I am not a Ron Paul supporter.
