The Grand Island appearance continues Trump’s aggressive stretch of campaign travel during the final month before the 2026 midterm elections. It follows rallies last week in Oklahoma, Alabama and Ohio as Republicans work to boost turnout ahead of Nov. 3.
Nebraska gives Trump another Senate race to focus on. Ricketts is running against independent Dan Osborn, who became a nationally watched candidate in 2024 when he challenged Republican Sen. Deb Fischer and lost by less than seven percentage points. Osborn is again running without a Democratic nominee on the ballot, setting up an unusual Republican-versus-independent contest.
Recent polling has suggested the race could be competitive, giving Republicans a reason to bring Trump into a state that otherwise remains reliably Republican at the presidential level. The latest numbers from Nebraska and other battlegrounds can be followed on our 2026 Senate polls page.
Trump is also campaigning alongside Gov. Jim Pillen, who is seeking another term against Democratic challenger Lynne Walz. The Nebraska stop comes as economic issues affecting rural states, including diesel prices, farm costs and agricultural trade, have become increasingly prominent in the closing weeks of the campaign.
The location itself underscores the rural focus of Monday’s event. Grand Island sits in central Nebraska, and the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center at the state fairgrounds can accommodate several thousand people. Organizers have been preparing the venue alongside local law enforcement, the Nebraska State Patrol and the U.S. Secret Service.
