Labor Day Gas Prices Hit Lowest Since 2020 as Trump’s Energy Policies Deliver Relief

As millions of Americans hit the road for Labor Day, they’re seeing some welcome relief: gas prices are the lowest they’ve been for the holiday weekend in five years. The national average sits at $3.15 per gallon, the lowest Labor Day price since 2020.

For families stretching their budgets, the drop is significant. Compared to last year, prices are down 14 cents, and the decline is accompanied by a decrease in travel costs across the board.

By the numbers:

  1. Gasoline: $3.15 national average, lowest since 2020
  2. Change from 2024: Down 14 cents per gallon
  3. Airfares: 6% cheaper than last Labor Day
  4. Hotels: 11% cheaper than last year
  5. Car rentals: 3% cheaper than 2024

Trump’s Energy Policy Front and Center

The White House is pointing to these numbers as evidence that Trump’s push for American energy independence is yielding results. Officials argue that rolling back excessive regulations and ramping up U.S. production is giving families breathing room.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump unleashed American energy dominance. That’s why families are saving money at the pump today.”

Energy Secretary Chris Wright added, “More American energy means lower costs, more jobs, and more prosperity.”

Outlook for Fall

Analysts caution that hurricanes or refinery problems could cause short-term spikes. But with cheaper winter gasoline blends on the horizon, prices could dip even further to possibly below $3 a gallon in many areas later this year.

Bottom Line

This Labor Day, Americans aren’t just traveling more, but they’re spending less. Cheaper gas, flights, and hotels are giving families a break. For Trump’s “Drill Baby Drill” strategy, it’s a clear sign that putting American energy first does yield results.
