Bombshell Report: Comey Authorized Classified Leak to Media

Newly declassified memos are shining a fresh light on the actions of former FBI Director James Comey during one of the most politically charged periods in recent memory. These revelations, exposed in a new report from Just the News, show that federal prosecutors secured evidence Comey personally authorized his top aides to leak classified information to the New York Times in 2017.

The memos reveal that James Baker, the FBI’s former general counsel, and James Rybicki, Comey’s chief of staff, confirmed under questioning that the leaks were approved at the very top. Baker told investigators he understood that Rybicki “was conveying instructions from Director Comey” when classified details were shared with the media.

Despite the seriousness of those revelations, the Justice Department declined to bring charges. Both the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington and Special Counsel John Durham reviewed the evidence but chose not to prosecute. For anyone paying attention since 2016, this fits a long-running pattern: powerful insiders skirting accountability while ordinary Americans would face severe penalties for the same actions.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who recently ordered the declassification of the memos, called the conduct “abhorrent.” She told Just the News, “There must be accountability for those who were entrusted with safeguarding our nation’s secrets and failed to do so.” Her remarks reflect what many on the right have argued for years—that the FBI under Comey was driven by politics, not professionalism.

Kash Patel, who led the effort to have the documents released, said the memos show how the FBI’s leadership “withheld the truth from Congress and the American people.” He added that transparency is critical because “the public deserves nothing less than full accountability.”

Comey, for his part, has unsusprigingly denied wrongdoing. He has insisted that he never served as an anonymous source for reporters and has portrayed himself as the target of political retribution for challenging Donald Trump. But the memos undercut that narrative, showing that leaks of classified material were not rogue acts but actions greenlit by the FBI director himself.

Legal experts note that statutes of limitation may still allow for charges if prosecutors can show the leaks were part of an ongoing conspiracy or caused damage to national security. Bondi has already formed a new strike force and convened grand juries to review potential prosecutions. Congress may also step in to examine whether testimony was misleading or whether documents were intentionally withheld.

Once again, evidence has emerged that the FBI bent the rules for political purposes to harass and target President Trump. Once again, high-level officials have walked away without facing consequences. And once again, the American people are left watching as the system is rigged in favor of the very people who are supposed to uphold it.

This latest revelation is a reminder of how fragile trust in the three-letter agencies has become. The nation’s top law enforcement official was caught leaking classified material, yet justice remains difficult to achieve.
