Not only will Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas not be impeached purely for a lack of political will among the totality of Democrats in the House, but it’s also a mathematical loser in the Senate. Despite the cries and teary-eyed pleas from House progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the biggest frauds in Congress, Justice Thomas will remain safely seated on the Supreme Court where he belongs until he chooses to retire.
The uproar started days ago when texts from Clarence Thomas’ wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, were leaked. The contents of the texts had to do with the January 6 protest of the 2020 presidential election results at the Capitol Building. Due to Ginni Thomas’ activism and statements on the events of January 6, 2021, Democrats want Justice Thomas to recuse himself from cases regarding the matter or be removed from the bench altogether.
Dozens of overheated articles have been written with writers frothing themselves silly at how the issue represents a “threat to democracy” worse than Nancy Pelosi’s ongoing botox tab.
One author, however, who calls for Thomas to be impeached, also says it’s a dead issue in the Senate and the Democrats should move on:
Progressives in the House of Representatives, lead by Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), are talking up impeachment in the wake of revelations that Thomas’ wife, Ginni, sent text messages to Donald Trump’s chief of staff around the time of the Jan. 6 insurrection, urging the then-president to “stand firm” in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. The Supreme Court justice later opposed his colleagues’ decision to order the release of documents to the House committee investigating the insurrection.
Progressives say that’s a conflict of interest for Thomas — one of many involving his wife.
The main problem is math. There weren’t enough Democratic votes in the Senate to convict Donald Trump during his two impeachments, and there aren’t enough votes now. Even if a few Republicans agreed that Thomas behaved badly — a big if — they’re still likely to circle the wagons for the justice and his wife.
Senate Republicans will, of course, circle the wagon for Thomas and his wife, they didn’t do anything wrong, criminal or otherwise. If Ginni Thomas believes there was fraud committed in the 2020 election, it’s within her right to say so. That has no bearing on what her husband is doing on the Supreme Court.
While we’re on this topic, let’s get every text message and details on every political position or donation that every spouse of a Supreme Court justice has ever made. What do we know of Justice Stephen Breyer’s wife, Joanna Hare? Has she ever taken positions on issues her husband was about to rule on? What does she think about abortion or gay marriage?
For that matter, what do we know about Jane Sullivan Roberts? Has she ever influenced her husband or said anything about issues like ObamaCare? How would we ever know and would that mean Chief Justice John Roberts must recuse himself because his wife held a personal political opinion that they discussed over breakfast that morning before oral arguments?
It’s all preposterous which is why impeachment efforts against Clarence Thomas will go nowhere except the trash can. Democrats have always hated Clarence Thomas, especially then-Senator Joe Biden who ran the “high tech lynching” against Thomas during his confirmation hearing in 1991. He’s a conservative black man, a demographic liberals despise more than anything else.
Democrats are trying to play some game of extortion by forcing Thomas to resign or threatening to start packing the Supreme Court with justices so left-wing they’ll make Ketanji Brown Jackson, a sympathizer of child sexual predators, look like a member of the Federalist Society.
The calls to impeach Thomas are just one more avenue Democrats are clawing at anything to attack Donald Trump with. The truth here is that there is no blood in the water, and there’s zero evidence that Justice Thomas was influenced in any way by his wife’s political activities or text messages, both actions which she’s allowed to engage in as a private citizen.
As always, conservatives are held to a different standard. If weren’t for double standards, however, Democrats would have no standards at all.
