The Southern Border of the United States Has Become a Suggestion

There’s been a lot of border crisis news that hasn’t made the front page in recent weeks, mainly because it’s so darned embarrassing, major media outlets don’t want to report it.

The situation at the border has deteriorated so badly that the mere appearance of a dividing line between the United States and Mexico is being treated more like a suggestion by the Biden administration, not a legal international boundary that must be secured and defended.

According to border agents on the ground, the situation is worse than it’s ever been with migrants continually streaming into the country, and U.S. Customers and Border Protection now outsourcing border security to coyotes and drug cartels:

“I spent three days on the front lines of the Biden administration’s illegal-immigration crisis and found a Border Patrol that has changed from an enforcement agency to a concierge service,” Angie Wong reports in The Post.

Worse: “The southern border of the United States has become a suggestion, a line that vanishes a little more each day.”

Migrants are streaming into the country in droves, assisted by cartel coyotes and left-leaning nonprofits; US Custom and Border Protection officers do next to no enforcing. There’s not enough of them.

So they’ve resorted to working with the cartels and coyotes, coordinating on “when and where drop-offs will happen.” That’s right: Uncle Sam has effectively handed control of the border to the criminals profiting off of moving people across it.

It’s the direct result of President Joe Biden’s hot mess of a border policy.

The border has dissolved under Biden, it’s being done quietly and by night. Just weeks ago, it was revealed that the Biden administration has been secretly moving migrants around the country with nighttime flights into areas like Scranton, PA, and Westchester, NY.

The goal for Biden seems to be focused on avoiding bad optics of thousands of migrants camping out along the border in tent cities, as was seen last spring. We are careening toward the time of year when seasonal migration dramatically picks up and the situation will continue getting worse:

Border Patrol pretends to patrol the border. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pretends to keep tabs on people coming in,” Wong notes. “President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pretend to say, ‘Don’t come here,’ but every signal — from the wide open borders to the NGO welcome mat — says, ‘Come on in!’ ”

The only White House strategy seems to be: Keep the flow going, fly migrants around the country to spread out the impact, trust the media not to report on it — and pretend nothing is really happening. Didn’t the left once claim to be the “reality-based” side of US politics?

That last part is key, the Biden administration trusts the media will do its job and entirely ignore the problem and ask no questions. So long as there are no damning pictures or images of migrant cities popping up under a bridge in Texas, everything looks fine.

With the midterms approaching, and the border sure to be a massive issue among voters aware of the problem, the border crisis isn’t going away on its own:

The Biden administration doesn’t seem much interested in the havoc on our southern border, but the problem isn’t going away. If anything, the situation has been worsening, and Republicans are certain to tee up border security as a midterm campaign theme.

Mr. Biden’s overall job-approval rating is in the low 40s. That’s worrying enough for Democrats, but Americans think even less of how the president is handling immigration, with only 36% of respondents voicing satisfaction in a recent CBS News poll.

Biden’s polling on immigration is abysmal and would be twenty points lower if more people actually knew what was going on. Outsourcing our own border security to drug cartels seems like an impeachable offense, doesn’t it? These are the people responsible for abusing women and children, now helping notify us of new migrant arrivals.

While the county is focused on Covid masks and whether a podcaster should be fired, the Biden administration is presiding over one of the largest security failures in the country’s history as our southern border dissolves.
