Democrats Use January 6 to Distract From Biden’s Failures

It will be a day of somber remembrance of a once-great country, now run into the ground economically by President Biden. Isn’t that what we’re supposed to commemorate for one year of Biden’s presidency? For Democrats eager to use the January 6 protest as a means to distract the country, this day means everything. Too bad it’s happening 10 months before the midterm elections and will be forgotten by tomorrow.

Democrats welcome the opportunity to talk about anything — anything — other than Biden’s abysmal record. His approval numbers are in the toilet and his policies are dragging the country there with him.

Naturally, the day will be marked with hyperbolic statements from the White House over threats to democracy and other over the top rhetoric meant to keep voters in a perpetual state of fear:

Previewing the president’s 9 a.m. ET remarks, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that Biden would “lay out the significance of what happened at the Capitol and the singular responsibility that President Trump has for the chaos and carnage that we saw.”

“He will forcibly push back on the lies spread by the former president in an attempt to mislead the American people and his own supporters, as well as to distract from his role in what happened,” she added.

Biden will say that Americans have to decide what kind of nation they want it to be, according to excerpts released ahead of his speech.

“Are we going to be a nation that accepts political violence as a norm? Are we going to be a nation where we allow partisan election officials to overturn the legally expressed will of the people? Are we going to be a nation that lives not by the light of the truth but in the shadow of lies?” Biden will say. “We cannot allow ourselves to be that kind of nation. The way forward is to recognize the truth and to live by it.”

Good points, Joe. Do you want to condemn the violence from January of 2016 when Democrat insurrectionists tried to burn down the city during Trump’s inauguration?

Anyone breaking the law during a protest or riot should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, it’s really that simple. It applies to any and all political violence, including that done in the name of Black Lives Matter or Greenpeace, for example. No one disagrees with that, yet if you ask Biden, the country is on the verge of some form of a political coup.

The truth here is that Democrats continue to use the events of January 6, 2021, for political gain. Or, at least they think they’re gaining something from dividing the country and spreading more dissension.

Of course, some Democrats wanted to use Jan 6 to push for a federal takeover of election law. Never let a crisis go to waste, right?

Some Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, had encouraged the White House to use the anniversary to draw renewed attention to passing voting rights legislation. But some Biden allies argued for keeping the two issues separate, saying that voting rights is about stopping the disenfranchisement of voters of color while Jan. 6 is about a violent attempt to upend the country’s democratic election process.

As if the agenda couldn’t be any more transparent than it already is. The longer Jan 6 can be kept alive in the media and among the Democratic Party base, the more it can be used as a political football and a fundraising scheme. Send us money so we can keep investigating and get to the bottom of this insurrection. Sounds good in email, yet in a practical sense, it’s a waste of time.

It has literally been a year today, and the Select Committee is still investigating. That seems like a pretty posh gig to get on a congressional committee that meets in perpetuity to “investigate” until the end of time. The pay increase that comes with committee work provides no incentive to wrap things up in a timely manner, so let’s keep the gravy train rolling as long as possible.

The bottom line is that by January 7, the country will be back to remembering why Biden’s presidency is failing, and why Democrats need something else to talk about.

January 6 is National Shortbread Day, didn’t you know?
