Poll: Biden Approval Tanking Among Voters in States He Won

How does a president and his party dig out from one disastrous policy after another? If it isn’t the ongoing yet covered-up situation in Afghanistan, the U.S. southern border, or the ongoing missteps on Covid-19 booster shots, what else could possibly go wrong for the Biden administration?

We chronicled earlier concerning Biden’s bottom-rung approval in Iowa, with numbers that have fallen lower in the Hawkeye State than either President Trump or President Obama ever saw. Iowa is a fairly red-leaning state, though it did vote Democrat in 2008 and 2012, so it’s not a deep-red state like neighboring Nebraska.

Now comes fresh concern for Democrats in Minnesota, a state which Biden won in 2020 by seven points. The current situation there has Biden falling to a new approval low among voters statewide according to new polling:

Democratic President Joe Biden’s approval rating is slightly lower than Gov. Tim Walz’s among Minnesota voters, and more voters actually say they don’t approve of Biden’s performance as Commander in Chief.

Statewide, 47% of voters approve of Biden’s performance, 51% disapprove and just 2% said they’re unsure of their opinion.

When looking at separate demographics, Minnesotans reflected similar views on both Walz and Biden. Each leader found more support in the Twin Cities metro, among young voters, women and voters in their own party.

Keep in mind, Minnesota is a blue state, touted as part of the “blue wall” of the upper midwest, and a state where Joe Biden handily defeated Donald Trump in 2020. Democrats win there and win often.

And yet, Biden’s disapproval is creeping up, now over fifty percent:

The approval numbers aren’t of much concern for Biden at the moment, but they will be a concern of Democrats hoping for re-election to the House in 2022 from Minnesota. There are several tight congressional districts in Minnesota, many with Democrats holding a seat in GOP-friendly areas following the wave in 2018 and 2020. As it stands now, with Biden as an anchor at the top, it will be more difficult to hold these seats in a state where Biden’s approval is underwater.

Clearly, the usual suspects are to blame as the Biden administration has been an ongoing catastrophe since early summer. The botched Aghanistan withdrawal started to turn his numbers sour, coupled with ongoing Covid problems and now an ongoing border crisis.

Americans are watching a daily onslaught of failure night after night on the evening news backed by an administration that can’t or won’t answer questions or provide definitive policy statements.

The trend in Minnesota could be a blip, or it could be the start of a wider trend that will continue spreading to other states into next year. If Biden can’t tamp down the chaos and provide some leadership, voters will be hesitant to keep Democrats in charge of Congress with a failed leader in the White House.
