2020 DNC Day 2: Speaking Schedule, Start Time, Live Stream (August 18)

Night one of the first virtual national party convention was gaveled in on Monday with Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders as headline speakers. The speeches from both were well-delivered, but were taped, of course, not live on a stage in front of thousands of supporters.

Night two of primetime speeches will feature Former President Bill Clinton as well as Dr. Jill Biden.

The entire feel of the convention on Monday, which was missing an actual physical presence in a roaring arena, tended to feel like an infomercial at times compared to a traditional political convention. In many respects, that feeling is simply unavoidable given the realities of Covid-19. Having watched decades of conventions, the production and pageantry of the event tends to make speeches feel larger, and reverberate further than they seemed to with pre-recorded messages. The City of Milwaukee played only a footnote role with most of the evening anchored from Los Angeles. That point is somewhat important because the Democratic National Committee chose Milwaukee to build a larger footprint in Wisconsin after Hillary Clinton lost the state in 2016. It might not matter in 2020, but convention venues are usually chosen for a reason, and Milwaukee was a key selection by Democrats.

The primetime coverage begins again tonight at 8 pm ET with speeches to begin at 9 pm ET, see the schedule below the live video stream.
