Wednesday’s debate is the final scheduled major televised matchup between Pappas and Sununu before Election Day. The two candidates have already met in several forums and debates this month, while a separate NHPR forum scheduled for Oct. 29 was canceled after Sununu declined to participate.
Pappas, currently a Democratic U.S. representative, and Sununu, a former Republican senator and governor, are competing for the open seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. The race has remained one of the most closely watched Senate contests in the country during the final stretch of the campaign.
The debate is part of WMUR’s “Granite State Debates” series, which also includes congressional and governor debates this week. Wednesday’s Senate event follows the 2nd Congressional District debate at 8 p.m. ET.
