The Alaska stop comes as Republicans devote unusual attention to a state Trump carried comfortably in 2024. Sullivan is locked in a highly competitive Senate race against former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola, while Begich is defending Alaska’s at-large House seat against independent Bill Hill.
The Senate contest is the bigger national prize. Recent polling has shown Peltola running competitively against Sullivan, with some surveys giving her a narrow lead and others showing a much tighter race. Vice President JD Vance visited Alaska earlier this month to campaign for Sullivan, and national Republican groups have poured millions of dollars into the state.
Energy and the cost of living have become central issues in the campaign. Sullivan has emphasized expanded oil and gas development and closer cooperation with the Trump administration, while Peltola has argued that Alaska families are being squeezed by high prices and need a broader approach to energy and affordability.
Trump’s visit also comes as Republicans try to protect Begich in the state’s lone House district. Begich has led Bill Hill in recent public polling, but the race has drawn additional national attention as Democrats and allied groups look for opportunities to expand the House battlefield.
Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system adds another layer of uncertainty to both races. Multiple candidates can advance to the general election, and voters rank their choices rather than simply selecting one candidate, making second-choice support potentially important if no one clears 50% initially.
The Wasilla rally continues Trump’s aggressive final-month travel schedule through states including Texas, Nebraska, Ohio, New York, Tennessee and Alaska as Republicans work to defend congressional seats ahead of Election Day.
