President Donald Trump announced Friday morning that a suspect in the shooting death of conservative icon Charlie Kirk is in custody.
Trump made the statement during an appearance on Fox & Friends, saying he had been told only minutes before going on air. “With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” he said. Trump added that people close to the suspect, including a minister and the suspect’s father, helped identify him and turn him over to authorities.
The announcement follows the fatal shooting of Kirk, 31, on September 10 while he was speaking at a “Prove Me Wrong” campus debate event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Investigators had launched a large-scale search and previously released video of a person of interest as part of the manhunt.

Officials held a press conference Friday morning, releasing details about Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, who was arrested Thursday night for the murder of Charlie Kirk.
Officials have identified the suspect in the shooting of Charlie Kirk as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah State University graduate. At a Friday press conference, Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson was “full of hate” and noted that he had spoken about Kirk’s visit before the attack. Investigators say Robinson later confessed to his father, a longtime sheriff’s deputy, who then contacted authorities and helped lead to his arrest.
Investigators revealed that several of the bullets and casings recovered from the scene carried disturbing messages tied to left-wing themes and online culture. One casing was scrawled with the phrase, “Hey fascist! Catch!” while another carried the words “Oh Bella Ciao …,” a reference to the famous anti-fascist song. Other inscriptions mocked their targets, including “If you read this, you are gay lmao” and “Notices bulge OwO what’s this?” The markings suggest the assassination was politically motivated.
