RealClearPolitics: Biden Favorability Now Lower Than Donald Trump

Sometimes, it’s worth taking a step back to really comprehend just far President Biden has fallen since the early days of his presidency. A year ago this month, as he was preparing for his inauguration, he was doing quite well with lofty goals and promises of bringing competence back to the White House and pledging to shut down the virus and rid the country of Covid-19. It seemed like all he had to do was simply maintain some semblance of “normal,” avoid the mean tweets, and he’d be just fine.

Well, a year later, with rampant inflation, Covid cases out of control, a failure in Afghanistan causing chaos for years to come in the region, and here we are.

Tom Bevan, of RealClearPolitics, took that step back to marvel at the current state of politics heading into the 2022 midterms:

How embarrassing it must be for Democrats to see their guy dip below a man they hated to the point of impeachment. How can Uncle Joe from Scranton possibly be hitting numbers in mainstream media polls only reserved for politicians that are hated by CNN’s primetime lineup?

The only silver lining for Biden is that he’s not Kamala Harris. Her numbers are truly steaming and continue to signal that any hope of a turnaround in 2024 or 2028 when she plans to run for president might be over it begins.

Why has Joe sunk so low? It’s simple, really. Over-promising and under-delivering.

Biden made promises he had no idea how to keep. No matter what anyone says, “science” doesn’t have a handle on Covid-19. In the spring, vaccines were going to be the end of this nonsense, according to Joe Biden on numerous occasions. Get your vaccine, it’s the patriotic thing to do and the virus goes away.

That didn’t happen, and with breakthrough cases causing infections to skyrocket among both groups, vaccinated and unvaccinated, the health bureaucracy is now panicking for answers.

This is rather uninspiring compared to Biden from six months ago:

Covid is probably here to stay, let’s just begin to wrap our heads around that right now. No level of government coercion can mandate a virus out of existence. We’ve been fighting influenza for decades and barely make a dent each year, but life goes on.

A lot of people listened to Biden, thinking he must be better than Trump at eradicating this virus. After all, Biden specifically pledged to shut down the virus, not the country. At the moment, it looks like the virus is winning this round as many parts of the country seem shut down because there are so many positive cases keeping people from their jobs.

Democrats don’t have much to run on in 2022, so they’re going to continue the losing strategy of linking Republicans to Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

That worked out really well in Virginia where Terry McAuliffe said “Trump” every five seconds on the campaign trail, then went down to sure defeat.

Biden’s now a dead weight on Democrats as he has nothing new to offer on the national stage. His plans have failed for Covid, his plans have failed for the economy, and his brand is now synonymous with, um, failure.
