Poll: 45% of Dems Support Internment Camps for Unvaccinated, 59% Support Home Lockdowns

You didn’t read that wrong, nearly half of Democrats polled recently support sending unvaccinated Americans to “designated facilities” if they continue to refuse the Covid-19 vaccination. We used to call that sort of thing an “internment camp” and most reasonable people tend to shy away from such inhumane measures.

Perhaps more alarming, though, is that 59% of the same respondents support enforcing a permanent home lockdown for unvaxxed individuals as well.

The data comes from Rasmussen and is worth examining since it exemplifies the current divide in America among people who want some kind of normalcy, and people willing to permanently imprison their neighbors if they don’t elect to receive a shot:

– Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Democratic voters would favor a government policy requiring that citizens remain confined to their homes at all times, except for emergencies, if they refuse to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Such a proposal is opposed by 61% of all likely voters, including 79% of Republicans and 71% of unaffiliated voters.

– Nearly half (48%) of Democratic voters think federal and state governments should be able to fine or imprison individuals who publicly question the efficacy of the existing COVID-19 vaccines on social media, television, radio, or in online or digital publications. Only 27% of all voters – including just 14% of Republicans and 18% of unaffiliated voters – favor criminal punishment of vaccine critics.

– Forty-five percent (45%) of Democrats would favor governments requiring citizens to temporarily live in designated facilities or locations if they refuse to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Such a policy would be opposed by a strong majority (71%) of all voters, with 78% of Republicans and 64% of unaffiliated voters saying they would Strongly Oppose putting the unvaccinated in “designated facilities.”

Not mentioned is the 47% of Democrats who support some kind of monitoring device forcibly imposed on unvaccinated individuals. This way your movements can be monitored I supposed, something classical liberals used to oppose as a government overreach.

Looking at the near 60% of Democrats that would support forcibly keeping unvaccinated people stuck in their homes until and unless they relent and get vaccinated reminds me of Australia. It’s the same mindset. Until you submit to demands of the state regarding a medical procedure, you lose your fundamental right to come and go as you please. This goes well beyond demands like vaccination requirements for domestic air travel or requirements for keeping your job, this would be a vaccine mandate just to allow you to leave your home.

Perhaps what’s more amazing about these numbers is how anti-science they are. More and more research is showing that mRNA booster shots, such as those from Pfizer and Moderna, do not offer much protection against the omicron variant. This isn’t some no-name study or no-name website, the data is legit, from Bloomberg:

Booster shots with messenger RNA vaccines such as those made by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE failed to block omicron in a study of some of the first documented breakthrough cases caused by the highly contagious variant.

Still, the findings demonstrate omicron’s ability to evade immunity generated by even the most powerful Covid-19 vaccine boosters. That underscores the need to continue fighting the pandemic with measures besides vaccination, such as social distancing and masking, the authors said.

If the current crop of vaccines and booster shots of the same vaccines can’t prevent the spread of the omicron variant, what’s the point of locking up the unvaccinated or sending them to their own special camps in the desert? It would be anti-science to blame omicron spread on the unvaccinated alone, but that’s what President Biden and most of his party are doing despite the clear way medical science is demonstrating the folly of such a belief.

No word on whether the desire from Democrats to roundup and intern Americans applies to citizens or non-citizens as well. Something tells me the numbers would be different if you split the question by asking about “unvaccinated undocumented migrants.” They’d probably be welcome to settle anywhere and would avoid the Democrat-run internment camps.
