Biden Border Update: New York State Is Drowning in Migrants

There’s a bit of schadenfreude involved here. Usually, it’s Texas, Arizona, or even California left dealing with the mess of President Biden’s open border policy.

However, thanks to the shrewd decisions of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and even Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Democrats in deep blue states are now getting a taste of what it feels like to be a border jurisdiction absorbing thousands of illegal migrants every month. DeSantis sending a planeload to Martha’s Vineyard, an “open” community that promptly bussed the planeload of needy migrants elsewhere, was the high watermark for liberal hypocrisy on display.

In the Empire State, there’s a war going on between upstate and downstate politicians over just what to do with migrants that keep arriving in the “sanctuary city” known as New York only to get sent to places like Buffalo and other regions outside lower manhattan.

After a few sexual assaults at the hands of newly arrived migrants, some upstate officials in western New York state have had enough and are demanding that NYC Mayor Adams find something else to do with his self-invited crisis, the New York Post reports:

A top upstate Dem official and previous vocal supporter of housing migrants there now says he will refuse additional resettlements — after a second local alleged sex assault involving an asylum-seeker.

The frustrated pol, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, added that the National Guard will start providing security at the three hotels-turned-migrant shelters in Cheektowaga in Erie within a day or two, after he learned the facilities are not safe, according to a weekend report.

Poloncarz said the county’s “trust and good faith has been betrayed,” including potentially by the New York City-hired firm paid hundreds of millions of dollars to oversee the relocation of migrants from the Big Apple to other areas.

The county exec said the company, DocGo, “may have interfered” with a Cheektowaga police investigation into the second assault case, which involves a hotel-worker victim.

“I demanded [New York City] Mayor [Eric] Adams pause all further transportation of asylum-seekers to our community until such time as we can resolve all security issues,” Poloncarz said during a Saturday press conference, according to Spectrum News.

Over 500 asylum seekers have been sent to various hotels-turned-shelters in the western, rural part of the state. The end result is a new population of completely unvetted individuals inhabiting small towns and suburbs of Buffalo and Rochester. There is usually no background information about these newly arrived migrants, they may be criminals with violent histories or they may simply be people seeking a better life in the United States, invited by lax border security.

The problem, of course, is that the politicians who implement these soft open border policies never feel the repercussions of them. It’s left for people like hotel staff to be assaulted by illegal migrants bussed in from New York City who actually end up being the victims.

The results have been gruesome at times with violent crime including sexual assaults:

Last week, a migrant from Venezuela who was bussed from New York City to a Cheektowaga hotel was charged with raping a woman in front of a 3-year-old child at the site.

Then an asylum-seeker from the Democratic Republic of the Congo was arrested Friday and is being charged with sex abuse and unlawful imprisonment after allegedly sexually assaulting an employee inside the Best Western hotel in Cheektowaga near Buffalo Airport.

Here’s a local news report on the criminal behavior stemming from the crisis:

Truly awful. This is part of the man-made disaster of Biden’s border policies and Democrat politicians who claim to welcome everyone with open arms regardless of who it hurts in the process.

Speaking of welcoming, remember Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, the one now asking Mayor Adams to stop sending migrants? He’s the same official who criticized other counties for refusing to accept migrants back in May:

“Erie County opened its arms to try to welcome these new Americans,” said Poloncarz — who in May scoffed at issuing a declaration of emergency as some other counties did to try to prevent the migrants being bussed in.

“Unfortunately we believe we can’t make the program, as it is presently run, sustainable without significant changes,” the county exec said Saturday.

Gee, I wonder why those other counties and jurisdictions said “No” from the start.

At least Democrats like Mark Poloncarz are starting to see why you can’t just bus in hundreds of people with no background check, house them in hotels that get trashed, and then release them into the population expecting everything to go just fine.

It’s not just New York officials feeling the pressure, Democratic politicians in other states are also speaking up and speaking out against Biden’s border policies, as the Post also reports:

From Massachusetts to Arizona, The Post has noted seven prominent liberal politicians and one independent officeholder who say the president needs to do more to stem the flow of migrants to American cities.

Most recently, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey said her state has taken charge while the federal government has been missing in action, as she declared a state of emergency last week over the migrant crisis in her state.

“Massachusetts has stepped up to address what sadly has been a federal crisis of inaction that is many years in the making,” she said in her letter to the feds.

With nearly 5,600 migrant families — more than 20,000 individuals — currently in state shelter, including children and pregnant women, Healey also demanded the Biden administration pay for the expenses.

It’s the people along the way that suffer before arrogant officials like Poloncarz wake up to the reality that Biden’s border crisis is causing real human damage to citizens and other migrants alike who are mixed in with violent felons and sexual predators.

Once again, Joe Biden is unconcerned with the damage inflicted on the population by his policies.
