The Republican National Committee (RNC) has officially selected the city of Milwaukee to serve as the location for the party’s 2024 national convention.
The RNC officially named the city during a press conference on Friday and former President Donald Trump also mentioned the choice at his Save America rally in the city of Waukesha on Saturday night, just 30 miles east of Milwaukee.
The lone holdout being considered was also the city of Nashville but with logistical issues and an unfriendly Democrat-controlled city council, the choice of Milwaukee naturally became the logical choice.
It’s also a strategic choice given that Trump won Wisconsin in 2016 and continues to hold a strong influence in the state.

As CNN reports, Milwaukee is also controlled largely by Democrats with a Democratic mayor to boot, but a national political convention means millions of dollars for the city in new revenue that can’t be passed up:
The convention site was unanimously approved by RNC members during a closed-door vote Friday morning at the party’s annual summer meeting here. McDaniel was joined by former White House chief of staff and onetime RNC chairman Reince Priebus, along with members of the party’s Wisconsin delegation for the announcement.
“In the next two years, we look forward to working with the mayor and everyone in the community to make this an event that highlights not just our nominee … but the great city that Milwaukee is,” McDaniel said.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, a Democrat, defended the decision to host the convention in his city, telling CNN the move “does not mean” Milwaukee is “signing up for the platform of the Republican Party.”
Wisconsin is a state where the GOP needs to be competitive to win in 2024. Tennesse would be a great convention location for several reasons, but it’s a solidly red state and will be in 2024 once again.
Wisconsin needs the boost and if Trump is the 2024 nominee, he’ll need to hone in on the voters he won in the rust belt to win again.
