Iowa Freedom Summit to Host 2016 GOP Hopefuls

U.S. Rep. Steve King will be hosting a gathering for 2016 Republican candidates scheduled for January of 2015. So far, numerous 2016 Republican hopefuls have committed with more expected to confirm in the next two months. The event, called the Iowa Freedom Summit, it also sponsored by the group Citizen’s United, which may sound familiar due to the Supreme Court case.

Report from KCRG:

Western Iowa U.S. Rep. Steve King is planning a caucus 2016 kickoff featuring at least three potential Republican presidential candidates in January.

King, who earlier this month was re-elected to a seventh term, will team up with Citizens United to host the inaugural “Iowa Freedom Summit” in Des Moines Jan. 24.

Among the confirmed speakers are Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. [Emphasis added]

Also in the lineup are Utah Sen. Mike Lee; Tennessee U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn; former Ambassador John Bolton and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

Additional speakers are expected to be announced in the near future.

“Midterm elections gave our country a dramatic shift in possibilities,” King said. “It is exactly the right time to bring our national leaders to Iowa to hear them cast a conservative vision for our Nation’s future.”

King’s desire is to keep Iowa front and center when it comes to presidential politics. It appears he is hoping to hold a second event in January of 2016 just before the Iowa caucuses as well.
