If Border Walls Don’t Work, Why Is Joe Biden Now Building One?

Democrats have said time and time again that walls are an ancient solution to a modern problem, unless they’re using walls to protect the U.S. Capitol Building, then they work great.

The situation at the U.S. southern border has gotten so out of control, thanks to the current administration, that the Biden White House is fast-tracking approval and waving federal laws to begin erecting a physical barrier in the worst parts of south Texas, the Associated Press reports:

The Biden administration announced it waived 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow border wall construction on Wednesday, marking the administration’s first use of a sweeping executive power employed often during the Trump presidency.

The Department of Homeland Security posted the announcement on the U.S. Federal Registry with few details outlining the construction in Starr County, Texas, which is part of a busy Border Patrol sector seeing “high illegal entry.” According to government data, about 245,000 illegal entries have been recorded so far this fiscal year in the Rio Grande Valley Sector which contains 21 counties.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS secretary, stated in the notice.

No effin’ crap. Pardon my French.

Walls, though imperfect, work. Yes, they require maintenance and can be climbed over or dug under, but they provide a physical barrier to at least redirect and slow the flow of migrants attempting to cross the border.

Somehow the Trump administration was able to slow the flow with a combination of walls and a simple policy that illegal immigrants would be deported quickly and must remain in Mexico waiting on their asylum claim. They were not released on a promise to return for a court date and sent packing.

The problem right now is that the Biden administration has literally put out the welcome mat to anyone from anywhere to cross the border, get released almost immediately, and face no consequences whatsoever. We’ve chronicled Biden’s border disaster on several occasions.

The AP waits until the very last paragraph of the article to point out the massive double standard Democrats have erected (pun intended) against building a border wall:

“After years of denying that a border wall and other physical barriers are effective, the DHS announcement represents a sea change in the administration’s thinking: A secure wall is an effective tool for maintaining control of our borders,” Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said in a statement. “Having made that concession, the administration needs to immediately begin construction of wall across the border to prevent the illegal traffic from simply moving to other areas of the border.”

It’s a huge change in policy to suddenly announce that walls and physical barriers are effective. Democrats spent the entirety of the Trump administration bashing the border wall policy.

Remember, it was Joe Biden in 2020 who famously said, “There will not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration”:

How’s that “high tech capacity” working out as record numbers stream across the border every week now?

Like everything else Biden says, however, his claim that he wouldn’t be building any border walls was just as solid as his claim to care about the American people in general.
