We already had rumors that former Vice President Joe Biden was considering a run in 2020, now there is talk that Hillary Clinton is working on a few different things with the intention of reviving her political career. The decision right now appears to be either a run for Mayor of New York City, or, perhaps, another run for the White House in 2020.
An insider close to Hillary say it’s 50-50 that she runs for New York City Mayor, this from the New York Post:
Hillary Clinton is seriously considering a run for New York mayor, according to a major city political insider, who claims she’s “50-50.”
Supermarket magnate John Catsimatidis said he talked to the failed Democratic presidential nominee, and came away convinced she may try to resurrect her political career by challenging Mayor Bill de Blasio this year.
“I spoke to her about it, but she didn’t indicate or signal to me [whether she would run]. She didn’t say never, she didn’t say no. In my personal opinion, it’s 50-50,” the billionaire owner of Gristedes Foods told The Real Deal real estate blog Monday.
Catsimatidis, who supported Clinton as a donor, said he will delay his own decision to run for mayor until the former secretary of state makes up her mind.
“If Hillary runs, I won’t,” said Catsimatidis, who ran in the 2013 New York mayoral primary as a Republican, but lost to Joe Lhota.
I can’t see Hillary being satisfied with the title of Mayor. After all, she was already a Senator from New York, which is usually a stepping-stone to the White House, should one desire it.
That’s why it makes more sense to me that the true goal of the Clintons is to continue seeking the presidency, perhaps using the world of television as the vehicle. The Washington Free Beacon reports on the prospects of Clinton-TV:
Hillary Clinton is now reportedly considering a new television show to help her prepare for another White House run.
“She’s been talking very seriously about the idea of having her own television show,”a close Clinton insider told author Ed Klein, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday. “As a TV host, she’d discuss the issues of the day from a progressive point of view, have top guests, interview world leaders and progressive thinkers.”
The idea of the show would be to help Clinton stay in the limelight and remain a leader opposing President Donald Trump’s agenda. After a surprise loss to Trump in November, many thought that Clinton’s chances of becoming president were over.
However, the purpose of the show would be to prepare for a 2020 presidential run, according to Klein’s source.
“She thinks being the host of a popular TV show would energize the Democratic Party base and her tens of millions of fans. It’s a way to make a comeback and position herself for another run at the White House starting in a year or so,” the source said.
Clinton would be able to control the show in a manner that would not allow for embarrassment.
“It would have to be a show that she and her people completely controlled,” the Clinton insider said.
What would a Hillary Clinton television show look like? I’m ….not sure I want to speculate. Perhaps a mixture of a daytime talk show with some featured stories on various progressive causes around the country and around the world?
Clearly the rise of Donald Trump, through the world of entertainment and television, has caught the attention of many political outsiders. The closest comparison to Trump’s rise is Barack Obama, though even Obama came from within the world of politics as a Senator from Illinois. Hillary could be looking at Trump thinking that her road to the White House isn’t paved with her government experience, but perhaps could be paved with an entertainment persona and fanbase that only a TV show could bring her.
You know who would make a fantastic first guest on Daytime With Hillary? President Trump. Big ratings! Yuge!
