Report from AL.com:
The smaller field of Republican candidates will meet Saturday, Feb. 13 in Greenville, South Carolina, with presidential hopefuls Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Jeb Bush and Ben Carson squaring off ahead of the primaries in the state.
The debate will be aired Feb. 13 on CBS starting at 9 p.m. ET from the Peace Center in South Carolina. “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson will be the lead moderator with Major Garrett, chief White House correspondent at CBS News, and Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal also asking questions to candidates. To qualify for the debates, candidates had to place among the top five finishers in New Hampshire, the top three in Iowa and top give in an average of national and South Carolina polls.
The debate is the first since the New Hampshire primaries where Trump came in first and Kasich a surprising second. After poor showings in the primary, contenders Carly Fiorina and Chris Christie dropped out of the race.
If this debate follows the trajectory of the campaign this week, we’re in for a bumpy ride. Bush and Kasich are attacking Rubio, Cruz is attacking Trump, Carson is attacking Cruz, and they’re all generally attacking each other. Campaigns are bound to turn negative, especially as the stakes get higher heading into primary season. South Carolina will be an important contest since it might usher in the end of the Bush campaign without a strong showing. The same holds true for Kasich, and possibly even Rubio.
We’ll have the full debate video after it airs.
