Herman Cain Expected to Announce Candidacy in Days

Following a strong showing at the first Republican presidential debate last week, businessman Herman Cain is now expected to formally announce his candidacy at an event in Atlanta, Georgia.

Currently Cain is in the exploratory committee phase and has not yet formally declared a candidacy.

Report from the Huffington Post:

Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain is expected to formally launch a presidential campaign for the next election season at an upcoming event in his hometown of Atlanta, CNN reports.

In an email dispatched on Sunday morning, Cain alerted his supporters to “save the date” May 21 for an announcement rally in the Peach State.

“After coming out as the clear victor of the first Republican presidential debate in Greenville, South Carolina, this past Thursday, Herman Cain has come closer to making a final decision regarding a bid for the White House,” the email said. “He will announce this decision at a free, public rally in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.”

Not too surprising given the recent uptick of his potential candidacy following a strong debate performance. Cain could make this move while riding the post-debate wave and perhaps enter the race on some solid ground with many new Republican voters thoroughly considering him.

We’ll keep you posted on details as they emerge.
