Former Sen. Rick Santorum visiting New Hampshire … a lot

Seems that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has been making an awful lot of trips to the Granite State recently and future trips are planned.

Story from Political Ticker:

(CNN) – Hours after the midterm elections, a possible 2012 Republican presidential hopeful announced he’s heading to New Hampshire later this week.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania will make his sixth trip this year to the Granite State on Thursday, to headline the New Hampshire Institute of Politics and New England Council’s “Politics and Eggs” series, according to Virginia Davis, spokeswoman for Santorum’s political action committee, “America’s Foundation.”

Davis said Santorum will focus on the outcome of Tuesday’s elections and “the road ahead for the Republican party.”

New Hampshire plays a crucial role in the road to the White House, as it traditionally holds the first primary of the presidential primary season.

Santorum also made seven trips to Iowa during the midterm election cycle, and six to South Carolina. Both states play a crucial role in the race for the White House. Iowa’s caucuses kick off the presidential primary season, while South Carolina usually comes third or fourth on the calendar.

Earlier this fall, Santorum announced the formation of a political action committee in Iowa, the latest sign the Pennsylvania Republican is getting serious about a White House bid in 2012.

Rick Santorum is likely running in 2012, he’s been laying the groundwork for years. Personally I like Santorum but he might be better Vice Presidential material than being a top-of-the-ticket kind of candidate. His Pennsylvania credentials will help any Republican bid in 2012.
